Minifootball is the type of football, the most widespread, which millions of amateur players in the world play and the only element that differs among cities and countries is the total number of players and the size of the field. So, there are different categories of minifootball: 5aside, 6aside, 7aside or 8aside. It is the grassroots sport, the football that everybody loves & plays in mini fields. It has a special dynamic because of the huge number of players who play every day, every week and every month because they are just in love with this sport.

The 5-a-side football team is the newest team among the Field Club teams (literally, it's the first year of existence). There is just one team, made up of 10 players for each game. The schedule for matches is going to be announced at the beginning of each term.  Trainings take place at the same time as for the 11-a-side football team, most likely on Tuesdays and Thursadys from 1.30pm to 3.30pm so try not to miss those ones.  Also there might be a weekly training session only for the 5-a-side football team players depending on the amount of time available.

This is our first year, so no major objective regarding the league. There's only one purpose: play football for the beauty of the game.

Not to forget, there's a compulsory 'reading list' for the following year (Trinity tradition ):

  1. Classics:

Diego Armando Maradona -it's an all-around textbook, very useful for developing dribbling, passing and playmaking skills; also, there is a large collection of free kick ideas that you could try.

Pele - similar to the one before, perhaps written in a more old-fashioned way.

Johann Cruyff - it brings new concepts as the 'Total football' style or diamond formation, being an inspiration for a whole collection of books that followed.

George Best - the so called 'Winger manual', a bestseller of its time.

Paolo Maldini, Franz Beckenbauer, Booby Moore - a well-known book for self-taught defenders.

  1. Forgotten books:

Brazilian Collection - a groundbreaking encyclopedia with more than 50 volumes already published;

Garincha - the 'King of dribbling',

80's generation - 'The most beautiful and talented generation of Brazil' with Zico, Socrates, Eder, Junior, Falcao, Careca and many other authors contributing to this.

Great collection of world football - the most comprehensive books ever written, scientific references being : Roberto Baggio, Giani Rivera, Gaitano Scirea, Gerd Muller, Roberto Bettega, Gheorghe Hagi,  Nicolae Dobrin, Ferenc Puskas, Alfredo di Stefano, Enzo Sciffo, Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law, Dejan Savicevic, Bobby Zamorano, Marco van Basten, Michel Platni, Michael Laudrup, Zbigniew Boniek, Mario Kempes,  Eusebio etc.

As for modern books,  everyone can choose, but please take a look a very useful one 'Falcao - futsal player' which covers the main ideas of 5-a-side football and futsal (i.e indoor version of 5-a-side).

Each book can be found in our international public database youtube.com . For any other information regarding the team or the reading list, do not hesitate to contact me at vmm29@cam.ac.uk .

Looking forward to see you in the following season.
